Frequently Asked Questions

Why wax?

Waxing is the ultimate available form of hair removal. It removes hair from the root, leaving your skin nice and smooth for weeks. Since waxing pulls hair from the follicle, unlike shaving and depilatory creams, it will not grow back thicker and darker, but instead thinner and more sparse.

Why get waxed?

For newcomers, and even returning clients, getting waxed can be a bit of a scary thought. If you come to Juslene, you know that you’re in good hands. Thinking about getting that Brazilian? Who better to wax you than Juslene, a real Brazilian herself!

But her origins alone are not good enough reason. Juslene has the proper licensing as well as years and years of experience. Most importantly, she is dedicated to providing the most comfortable experience possible. She also has spent a lot of her time searching for the best kind of wax that pulls the least on skin.  She promises to be quick but extremely careful ensuring you that in reality it isn’t so bad after all—and once you’ve done it, you’ll be hooked, because there’s no better feeling than smooth skin that stays that way for several weeks.

Is getting waxed painful?

We won’t lie to you, the answer is it depends. Many often say that waxing is often not nearly as bad as anticipated, but every reaction is difference. But the fact is, people keep coming—especially to Juslene—so it can’t be that bad, right?

Your experience will depend on a number of factors, such as your pain tolerance, skin, type, the kind and quality of wax used, the quality of service from your esthetician, and the time in between your last appointment. For more information, keep reading our FAQ and check out our blog.

The South American Herbal Wax used by BrazWax is more gentle on the skin and less pain-inducing than the wax used by many other spas. Combined with the practiced technique of a master esthetician, and regular appointments, pain can be minimized as much as possible.

Which areas of the body can be waxed?

With the exception of men’s facial hair, almost any area can be waxed. Ultimately, your skin’s reaction will depend on the area, skin type, wax, and the quality of the service you receive. You should always choose a wax esthetician who is knowledgeable about skin types and their reactions—luckily, Juslene is well-versed and can help you determine if waxing or certain areas of waxing are suitable for you. If you have any questions, please contact Juslene by either phone or e-mail. She will be happy to help!

How long should the hair be before waxing?

For the best results, the recommended hair length should be at least ¼ inch long.

How long will my results last?

Waxing is a process. The typical recommended time between waxing is 3-4 weeks, but it will ultimately depend on how quickly hair re-growth occurs. However, with continued regular waxing, your hair will grow back slower and thinner, allowing longer periods of smooth skin and between waxing. Regardless, after any given appointment, your skin should remain smooth for 2-3 weeks.

How often should I get waxed? When should I schedule my next appointment?

It will depend on how quickly (or slowly) your hair grows back, but you can usually schedule your next appointment within the next 3-6 weeks. You should wait until your hair has grown back about ¼ inch before returning.

For women, it is best not to wax when you are close to your period. During this time, your skin and response to pain becomes more sensitive. Waxing can still be done, but the experience may be a little more painful. Also, you hair grows back more quickly while on your period. Often you are most sensitive 3 days before your period, during, and 3 days after, so it is ideal to get waxed a few days after to ensure the most pleasant experience and longest results.

Does my medication affect my waxing experience?

It absolutely can, so please make sure to mention any kind of medications to Juslene or to call and ask before hand if you are concerned.

If you are on Accutane, you cannot wax. The medicine in Accutane makes your skin very fragile, and since even the best wax can still tug at your skin, you chances of scabbing and scarring are heightened. You must stop Accutane 3-6 months before waxing.

If you are using Retin-A or Glycolic Acids, please stop its use 72 hours prior to facial waxing.

Can I go tanning after my wax?

It is recommended to wait at least 24 hours after your treatment before tanning. Also, do not get waxed right after a spray tan because the wax will remove it.

Benefits

Hair removal has existed since antiquity. Persians plucked while Ancient Greeks shaved and singed. Now thousands of years later, we still try to remove unwanted hair. Nothing feels better than smooth skin, but shaving requires daily attention, and all that plucking is painful. Meanwhile, laser hair removal is often too expensive and does not guarantee complete and permanent hair removal, often leaving us to still regularly remove unwanted hair.

Waxing reduces the time you spend on hair removal while amplifying its rewards. Waxing temporarily removes the hair from the root, leaving your skin smoother for a longer period of time than shaving or depilatory creams. Since waxing pulls hairs from the follicle, it will not grow back thicker and darker, but instead finer, more sparse and significantly slower. Even better, if you continue to regularly remove hair by waxing, the hair will continue to grow back slower and thinner, and eventually with time, much of the hair will stop growing altogether. Although waxing cannot provide permanent hair removal, it does help dramatically reduce the regrowth of unwanted hair.

With regular appointments for hair removal by waxing, since the hair will grow back slower and thinner, the time between your visits will most likely increase. Your visits can even reduce in frequency—and for some people in certain areas, with time, they can even experience very little to no pain at all.

Waxing does more than just remove hair; you feel a difference. It rids hair from its root, so it’s better than the closest shave and it lasts for weeks, giving you the confidence you desire.
